Big E has been working hard to recover after a broken neck threatened to end his in-ring career. While he has been able to finally ditch his neck brace, the former WWE Champion has suffered some setbacks in his recovery. Despite the hardships, Big E is grateful that he will make a full recovery.

The injury occurred during a match on SmackDown with Ridge Holland that was supposed to be a part of the build towards WrestleMania. He took a bad bump which resulted in a broken neck. Big E narrowly avoided paralysis and is expected to be able to live a normal life once he is fully recovered.

ESPN’s Marc Raimondi recently caught up with Big E. He said he is grateful for the doctors who took care of him. He said learning about the seriousness of his injury was very sobering.

“It’s very sobering to hear that. I think to be great at something like [pro wrestling] or at least to be competent, you can’t spend all your time worrying about possibly fatal injuries or breaking your neck. You have to go out there and be free and in the moment. I think a lot of us as performers don’t spend a lot of time thinking about that stuff. I never thought I would be.”

During the March 11 match, Big E fractured his C1 and C6 vertebrae. Ridge Holland suplexed him on the outside and he landed on his head. It was a scary scene for those watching.

Fortunately, Big E has kept a positive attitude through it all. While his recent setback pushed a possible return to the ring back, he is taking it in stride. Big E isn’t letting things get him down, despite his near-fatal accident.
