NXT was once known for putting on some of the best pay-per-views in professional wrestling. The “Takeover” series of shows featured some truly legendary moments. While the naming conventions may have changed, WWE is hoping to keep up the tradition of fantastic premium live events from the developmental brand.
The most recent NXT premium live event was In Your House back in June. That show saw Bron Breakker defend the NXT Championship against Joe Gacy. Cameron Grimes also captured the NXT North American Championship from Carmelo Hayes. Fans of NXT have wondered when the next big streaming event will be held.
In this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed just that. WWE is looking at a couple of dates in August for the next NXT premium live event. There aren’t many details, but it appears we are only about a month away from NXT’s next major show.
“They are tentatively planning a major NXT show for late August, with 8/20 and 8/27 being looked at as possible dates for the next “Don’t call it Takeover” show.”
NXT frequently has branded events during their normal weekly television spot on USA. The most recent show was this week’s Great American Bash. The August show would fall on a Saturday if one of the mentioned dates is finalized.
Nothing has been officially announced at the moment. Another live streaming event is likely going to happen next month. It will be interesting to see when and if WWE makes it official and begins the build.
