AEW will be presenting their NJPW crossover pay-per-view event called Forbidden Door on June 26th. Fans are certainly excited about the event as well. Tony Khan also revealed the original plans for the Forbidden Door event.
It has been a difficult period of time for AEW. This is due to the fact that several of their top stars have been injured and are out of action. This includes CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole and more.
While speaking on “Busted Open Radio” on SiriusXM, AEW President Tony Khan talked about the original plans for the Forbidden Door event prior to the latest string of injuries.
“CM Punk got injured. AEW had to find a new main event now that the original plan of Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. CM Punk could no longer go forward.
Moxley vs. Tanahashi is a dream match the fans have been calling for, for years,” Khan continued, calling Tanahashi, “one of the world’s greatest wrestlers.
And the TV was ready to go, we had a lot of great matches planned in the weeks leading into Forbidden Door. A lot of those matches involved CM Punk “and a number of other stars who are injured,”
We will have to wait and see how successful the Forbidden Door event will turn out to be. After all, Tony Khan also has plans of holding an AEW tournament in Japan somewhere down the line.
