Eddie Kingston’s rise to stardom in AEW has been one of the most surprising in years. After perfecting his craft all over the independent circuit, Kingston cut a passionate promo after what was thought to be a one-shot against Cody Rhodes on Dynamite, which landed him a contract from Tony Khan. Eddie recently talked about his early interactions with Khan and shared a hilarious story.
When Eddie Kingston first met Tony Khan, he acted exactly as one would expect him to. He knew Khan was a billionaire and was interested in owning professional sports teams. Kingston asked Khan if he would buy his favorite team.
Appearing on MackMania to talk about Forbidden Door, Eddie Kingston shared one of the funniest anecdotes he’s ever told. He asked Tony Khan if he would buy the New York Knicks. On top of that, he told TK he wanted to be the general manager.
“Man when I first met Tony Khan and had a meeting with him and then we talked a little bit after I asked him. I said, ‘You ain’t gonna buy the Knicks, man?’ He just looked at me like, ‘No!’ I said, ‘You sure? You can buy the Knicks and then make me the GM right? No?’”
Eddie Kingston is set for a huge six-man tag match at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. He will team with Shota Umino and ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta to take on Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki, and Sammy Guevara. That show goes down on Sunday night, June 26.
Tony Khan may not have bought the Knicks and named Eddie Kingston GM, but he did give him a wonderful opportunity. Eddie was feeling down about his future during the COVID pandemic. Since joining AEW, he has become one of the most popular stars in wrestling.
