Chris Benoit was one of the best pro wrestlers to have ever stepped foot inside the squared circle. He made his mark all over the world in various pro wrestling companies. He also almost broke Kurt Angle’s neck once.
Chris Benoit worked very hard to finally make it to the top of the mountain in WWE. He also had instant classic matches with Kurt Angle in the company.
While speaking on his podcast, Kurt Angle talked about a Steel Cage match during the July 11, 2001 edition of Monday Night RAW. It featured Angle and Benoit taking each other to the limit and also included a German suplex off the top rope. Angle said he almost broke his neck.
“You know what? I took a German suplex from Chris Benoit on the top rope in a cage match. I landed right on my head,” revealed Kurt Angle. “I should have broken my neck and had a concussion. I don’t know how I survived through that.
Chris Benoit threw a German suplex on me, and I landed right on the back of my head, literally five feet below,” the WWE Legend continued. “So, we were up high on the top rope, leaning on the cage, and he German suplexed me in the middle of the ring. I mean, I landed right on my head!”
Chris Benoit’s legacy was tarnished after his murder-suicide back in 2007, but fans will always remember how great of a pro wrestler he was.
