Stephanie McMahon will be returning to WWE in a role that most did not expect. After McMahon announced a leave of absence from her duties, a major sex scandal involving her father, Vince McMahon, became national news. Stephanie has since been named interim CEO of the company.
Vince McMahon noted that he was stepping down for the length of WWE’s internal investigation of the situation. A press release noted that Stephanie McMahon would be taking over for that span. This morning, Stephanie addressed WWE staff about the move.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics tweeted that Stephanie informed WWE staff that she would be returning in the new role. Not much of substance was included in the memo. Stephanie said she is looking forward to the challenge and that her door is always open.
“I will be returning from my leave of absence and assuming the role of interim Chairwoman and CEO.
I love our company and am excited to continue to work with our President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan and our Chief Financial & Administrative Officer Frank Riddick.
And of course, I look forward to working with all of you. My door is always open.”
Stephanie McMahon takes over as CEO at a pivotal point in WWE’s history. Vince McMahon will remain in charge of creative but has stepped down from his duties at the top of the corporate food chain. Depending on what the investigation uncovers, he may never return to that level of power.
