Vince McMahon has survived plenty of scandals during his tenure with WWE. In the 1980s, several allegations of sexual abuse and other horrific acts nearly derailed the company. McMahon also survived the steroid trial in the 1990s. Vince’s track record of coming out of major controversies unscathed has many in WWE believing that this time will be no different.

McMahon has been accused of paying a substantial amount of hush money to a WWE paralegal with whom he had an affair. Many have called for Vince’s ouster from the company. The WWE Board of Directors’ hands are tied, as Vince McMahon controls the voting majority and cannot be fired.

Those factors and others have led to an internal belief that Vince McMahon will survive his latest scandal. Dave Meltzer discussed the issue on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio. While John Laurinaitis may take the fall, it is believed that McMahon may escape with his job.

“Major CEOs, far more powerful than Vince McMahon, have been brought down for less than this, but the defense is, and I know people in the company who do believe Vince will survive this, I’m not so sure about John Laurinaitis, but do believe Vince will survive this, you know, with the idea that as long as there’s no company funds used to pay this off, it’s just, you know… That would be OK.”
