Gunther had an amazing run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE by holding the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would drop the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36. The former WALTER was also given huge props by Drew McIntyre.
Gunther eventually made his way to the US as part of the NXT roster as well. Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser made their main roster debut on Friday Night Smackdown earlier this year.
Gunter also won the Intercontinental Championship on last week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown. While speaking on this week’s episode of WWE’s The Bump, Drew McIntyre gave Gunther huge props for being a force of nature on Friday Night Smackdown.
“Well, Gunther is impressive. He’s been a force of nature since he arrived on SmackDown. He’s been running through everybody. We’ve got a little bit of history ourselves. I’ve been following his career. He’s been more focused than ever. He’s in the best shape of his life and you know he’s got a good thing going right now. Clearly, it’s working because he’s the Intercotinental Champion.”
WWE is clearly high on Gunther right now. It remains to be seen how he will be booked in the coming weeks as the Intercontinental Champion.
