Gunther was known as Walter in NXT until WWE officials decided he needed a name change. The Austrian was repackaged as Walter and made his main roster debut on the April 8 edition of SmackDown.

It was previously reported that Gunther had already impressed “many people of influence” in WWE. The former NXT UK Champion followed a strict training regimen and his dedication earned him the respect of fans and peers alike.
Gunther took on Ricochet for the Intercontinental Championship this week on SmackDown. The two men give fan in attendance and at home watching a solid match. Gunther won the match following a devastating powerbomb.
Ricochet had a decent run with the Intercontinental title, defending it against the likes of Angel and Humberto. The One and Only held the title for 97 days before dropping it to Gunther tonight on SmackDown.
