AEW introduced a new championship during last night’s episode of Dynamite. The first-ever All-Atlantic Champion will be crowned after a tournament that will wrap up at Forbidden Door. Many fans were lukewarm to the idea of another title in Tony Khan’s promotion.

The reaction on social media was not exactly positive. Ringside News ran a Twitter poll that shows nearly 65% of fans don’t think the title is needed. While there are some willing to see what happens, others had plenty of criticism for the new belt.

“No but it looks great”

“One thing that bothers me is Japan is in the Pacific Ocean…Just a weird choice of forced heritage”

“Dumb as hell.”

Many were disappointed that the new title wasn’t the much-anticipated Trios Championship. That title is most likely coming, just not right now. Instead, AEW has introduced another mid-card championship.

The tournament to crown an inaugural champ started with Pac defeating Buddy Matthews on this week’s Dynamite. Competitors from around the world, including New Japan Pro Wrestling, will vie for the new title. It remains to be seen whether fans will accept the championship, but for now, many are highly skeptical.
