John Cena is well known for his affinity for his fans. Cena has broken records for the massive amount of Make-A-Wish kids he visits with. The Champ recently had an opportunity to meet another special fan who traveled to a strange new land to escape his war-torn home.
Misha Rohozhyn escaped the Ukrainian city of Mariupol to find safety in The Netherlands from Russia’s invasion. Misha suffers from Down Syndrome, and his mother had to convince him that he would eventually meet his hero, John Cena, to encourage him to continue the journey. That pipe dream became a reality when Cena traveled to the Dutch city of Huizen to meet the young fan.
A story in the Wall Street Journal described the wonderful scene. Misha is non-verbal and had been isolated in his bedroom in his new home. He became frustrated when his mother was unable to deliver on her promise of a meeting with John Cena, but the WWE superstar took it upon himself to show up.
“I didn’t want a son to think of his mom in a different light just because she did whatever she had to do to get him to safety. I wanted to tell him today personally that his story really touched me.”
Cena arranged the meeting after hearing Misha’s story. The two got together on Saturday, which his mother said was the first time he has smiled since leaving Ukraine. Misha was decked out in his Cena t-shirt, matching socks, shorts, and baseball cap.
John Cena also gifted Misha a new WWE championship belt, which he now treasures. The meeting was a touching reminder of the good that can come from professional wrestling. For one young person, it meant the world.
