MJF captured the attention of the wrestling world when he no-showed a fan meet and greet before the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Friedman then established himself even further as the company’s top heel when the situation played out in a fiery promo on Dynamite. Max was subsequently removed from AEW’s online shop, roster page, and promotional videos for their television shows.
It turns out that the new owners of TBS and TNT, Warner Bros. Discovery, are in on it as well. A recent report from Mike Johnson of PW Insider claims that an edict was handed down from WB-Discovery to remove MJF from all promotional videos and commercials for Tony Khan’s company. AEW is currently not acknowledging MJF whatsoever.
“A source at Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed to PWInsider.com today that late last week, there was an edict issued to remove MJF from all promotional spots and commercials for AEW programming going forward.
MJF is currently being edited out of any TBS and TNT spots he appears in with different AEW footage replacing him. We are told that the existing spots with MJF have been officially pulled but it’s possible some may still pop up as they transition to the newer spots.”
Whether Warner Bros. Discovery is in on “the work” or just doesn’t want a foul-mouthed heel to become the face of their networks is unknown. Either way, AEW is already working to replace MJF in their promotional materials. It is as if he never existed.
Time will tell what comes next for MJF and AEW. His infamous promo caused some fans to side with him and turn against the company. We will have to wait and see if there are any long-term effects from the situation.
