Wardlow made his AEW debut back in 2019 and since then has been booked as an unstoppable force in the company. Wardlow got over with fans thanks to his slowburn storyline with MJF. Wardlow also addressed comparisons between his storyline as well as Cody Rhodes’ in the past.

During Cody Rhodes’ feud with MJF, Rhodes had to defeat Wardlow in a steel cage match. He also had to suffer 10 lashes at the hands of MJF. Two years later, Wardlow had to undergo similar trials.

He endured 10 lashes from MJF without any trouble and then defeated Shawn Spears in a steel cage match as well. While speaking during an AdFreeShows.com exclusive interview with Jon Alba, Wardlow talked about similarities between his situation and Cody Rhodes. Wardlow admitted that being in Rhodes’ shoes was a humbling moment.

“That is a humbling moment. That is very wild, that I am now in Cody’s shoes which are some big shoes to fill. That feels pretty damn good and I think, no disrespect, but I think Max and I are a hotter commodity than the previous storyline. I think it’s something to be proud of.”
