Dexter Lumis a.k.a Samuel Shaw worked in Impact Wrestling and the indie circuit before obtaining a contract with the global behemoth WWE. Lumis and nine other NXT performers were released by WWE a month ago. Apparently, Lumis was released because of his age.
WWE head writer Road Dogg recently recently revealed that Lumis may have been released because of his age. Dogg recently sat down for an exclusive interview with WrestleZone. He touched on why WWE might have decided to part ways with Dexter Lumis.
[Dexter] drew all kinds of stuff. We used to write him to draw pictures on NXT all the time because he’s a genius artist. I think with Dexter, look, Sam’s a great guy, I’m a huge fan of his … I think what his deal was was is I think his age, you know what I mean? Like he’s not 40 but he ain’t 25 either..
Lumis’ WWE run lasted for three years. He had significant matches with Roderick Strong and Theory, among others. During his time in NXT, the 38-year-old also created a new persona for himself, earning him the moniker “Tortured Artist” from fans.
Road Dogg has identified two new positions in WWE that he would like to play. The former wrestler, who has previously worked for WWE as a head writer, stated that he would like to be a panelist on the launch program. He expressed his interest in being a commentator on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw. Check out the video below.
