Vince McMahon has his own reasons for making every decision. He also has a few things that he doesn’t want to see or hear on WWE television. Apparently, the word ‘attack’ is something that he doesn’t want to hear at the moment.
Bryan Alvarez mentioned how Jimmy Smith corrected himself during Seth Rollins’ attack on Cody Rhodes on Monday’s episode of the Bryan and Vinny Show during the Raw review. Alvarez claimed he doesn’t know for sure, but someone he spoke with at WWE feels the word “attack” is banned. It’s related to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The other night, I don’t know if it was on SmackDown or it was on Raw…but they did one of their 85 post-match angles…I think it was Seth Rollins attacking Cody. He goes ‘Seth Rollins has attacked Cody. I’m sorry, assaulted.’ And they just kept going. I was like, that was f**king weird. And I went back and listened to it again. And sure as sh*t he goes, ‘Seth Rollins has attacked Cody. I’m sorry, assaulted Cody.’ And then he just moves on and I thought is this f**king word banned? And so I asked someone there and unofficially they also believe that you can no longer say the word ‘attack’ and I don’t even want to say this because it will end up as a story but you know they basically said like, ‘Russia attacked Ukraine so we don’t want to use the word attacked. Now you have to say assaulted.’ I was like, what?! It was so weird that he said the wrong word and then apologized…So anyway, I don’t think you can say ‘attacked’ in WWE right now.
Alvarez joked about not writing an article out of this on the internet as he was not 100% sure. However, it’s not normal to correct the word ‘attack’ with ‘assault’ on WWE TV. The word ‘attack’ has been heavily used throughout the years on WWE television and now to ban the word amid Russian invasion is no mere coincidence.
As history has shown, things in WWE may change from week to week, thus the word could be prohibited now and then unbanned the next week. We’ll keep you updated on every other news. To know about latest developments, keep an eye on Ringside News.
