Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti have taken their real-life relationship and adapted it to their current AEW storyline. The couple recently won the AAA mixed tag team titles and have been feuding with Dan Lambert’s stable featuring Paige VanZant, Scorpio Sky, and Ethan Page. There have been conflicting reports about exactly how that is planned to be resolved at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
There was some speculation that Paige VanZant wouldn’t be ready to wrestle in time for the show. AEW sees her as a huge future wrestling star and Tony Khan would not want her to look bad if she was not prepared. A recent training video shared by PVZ shows that she is putting in the work.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the plans for Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti at Double or Nothing. As of this weekend, AEW has the mixed tag match featuring Conti and Guevary against Lambert’s team on the books. The bout is expected to be made official during this week’s episode of Dynamite.
“I think that that match is on the pay-per-view. I was outright told over the weekend that it was listed. Until it’s announced, it’s not announced. They could do it a different way, but I was outright told that that match is tentatively scheduled for the pay-per-view.
That would probably be where they would do it. But, you know, we’ll see. That’ll probably go down on Wednesday’s show, I’m going to guess.”
Things could certainly change between now and Wednesday. For now, AEW expects to have the mixed tag team match on the pay-per-view. We will no for sure no later than Friday night’s live episode of Rampage.
