Johnny Elite made his AEW debut on last night’s episode of Dynamite. The well-traveled superstar took on Samoa Joe as the Joker in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Since Johnny showed up, fans have been wondering about his status with the company.
As of right now, Johnny Elite is not officially signed to an AEW deal. The door is open for additional spots down the line if the company decides to work with him. For now, he won’t be going full-time with the company.
Mike Johnson of PW Insider provided the latest update. While Johnny Elite is not officially on the AEW roster, fans might see him again. That will depend on his availability and whether AEW has something for him.
“Speaking of Hennigan, who debuted last night as Johnny Elite, we are told he is not signed to the promotion as of this writing but the door is open for additional appearances down the line after he wrestled Samoa Joe last night.”
Johnny Elite is the former John Morrison. He has made a career out of changing his name depending on which promotion he works for and what his character is doing. Morrison has previously gone by Johnny Nitro, Johnny Impact, Johnny Mundo, and more. The AEW fans in Houston gave him a very warm welcome, regardless of the name.
Time will tell when we might see Johnny Elite next. He has worked around the world under his various monikers. Given the good reception from the crowd, Tony Khan might think about bringing him back soon.
