CM Punk recently responded to the ongoing criticism of AEW by Eric Bischoff. Punk called the former WCW boss a carny and asked fans to stop amplifying his takes and his ego. Bischoff has frequently made negative comments about Tony Khan’s company.

Bischoff has now fired back at CM Punk. Eric continued the back-and-forth on the latest episode of the 83 Weeks podcast. Bischoff called CM Punk’s run with AEW “the biggest financial flop in the history of wrestling.” Eric believes Punk has failed to move the needle for his new home in a meaningful way.

“I love that sh*t. I love to counterpunch. Sometimes I don’t really wake up until I’ve been hit really hard, it’s just my nature but he threw a punch on social media and I thought this would be fun so I responded. I pointed out that this was a guy who came out and said that for a guy who thinks he was a bigger deal than Scott Hall and Kevin Nash coming to WCW, so far he’s fallen flat on his face.

I published his quote, I didn’t make anything up. I took his quote and posted it and said how’s that working out? Which it isn’t, obviously. In terms of a return on investment, this guy has to be the biggest financial flop in the history of wrestling.”

Eric Bischoff went on to rant about how he doesn’t think heavy merchandise sales are enough to justify what AEW is paying CM Punk. Bischoff noted that if someone can prove him wrong, he would be happy to eat his words. For now, he doesn’t believe it has been a profitable venture.

The war of words between CM Punk and Eric Bischoff shows no signs of stopping. Punk thinks Bischoff is out of touch with how modern wrestling works. Bischoff is content to continue hammering at the Second City Saint as long as it’s drawing listeners.
