Malcolm Bivens was in the middle of a storyline as manager of the Diamond Mine stable in NXT when he was given his release from the company. Bivens confirmed that he turned down a contract renewal from WWE. The company decided to let him go if he wasn’t interested in staying.

There are plenty of open doors for Malcolm Bivens. He established himself in Ring of Honor and the independents under his real name, Stokely Hathaway. Any promoter who is looking for a manager could find gold in the former WWE star.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about Bivens’ situation. The belief within NXT is that he had no interest in returning to WWE. The behind-the-scenes talk in Orlando is that Malcolm Bivens will be AEW-bound once his non-compete period ends.

“For whatever this is worth, in NXT, the belief was that Bivens didn’t sign because he wanted to go to AEW and will be there when his noncompete ends. Whether that’s true or not, that was the belief.”

Malcolm Bivens said he wasn’t happy anymore in NXT. The decision to walk away is one he is at peace with. It’s much easier knowing the job you really want could be waiting for you on the other side.

Fans will have to keep their eye out to see if Malcolm Bivens shows up in AEW. Tony Khan would likely have no problem finding him a place. He might even wind up back in his old home at Ring of Honor.
