MJF has worked hard to make himself one of the best heels in the modern-day pro wrestling industry. He did not waste any time cementing himself as one of the top stars in AEW. MJF and All Elite Wrestling squabbling doesn’t appear to have improved from his side. Tony Khan and MJF had a heated confrontation in April, as we reported earlier, and both were frustrated for different reasons. Now that some time has passed, the Salt of the Earth still isn’t thrilled.
MJF was unhappy with his contract situation and pay scale, so he dropped a lot of references during an interview. He got a talking to about that, mainly because he didn’t approve the interview with AEW.
Fightful Select was told the experience soured MJF on a number of issues. Tony Khan, on the other hand, was more concerned about MJF conducting a high-profile interview with Ariel Helwani without first telling AEW PR. As things set now, TK seems to be okay, but MJF is thinking about WWE.
We’ve not heard of any outward frustration since then from Tony Khan’s side of things. Though the two talked out their issues in the following week, we’re told that sentiment hasn’t necessarily lasted with MJF. Fightful has heard that MJF’s sentiments about possibly going to WWE when his contract are up are not in character, and it’s a subject he’s already weighed. There has been at least some progress on his future in AEW, as we’re told their have been open ended mentions about him possibly gaining an extension.
Many people do not believe MJF and Tony Khan are as close as they were before the reported conversation about the Salt of the Earth’s rogue interview. MJF is rumored to be considering leaving AEW when his contract expires. Since he has two years left on his contract, and contract negotiations have been discussed to him, a lot might change.
It’s unclear whether this is a renegotiation of his present contract or a post-contract extension. We haven’t been notified if he intends to leave the organization completely. Tony Khan and AEW representatives were reached out to for more information, but they have yet to provide a response.
