WWE Hall Of Famer Ted DiBiase remains one of the most popular and hated heels during the late 80s and early 90s. DiBiase’s character work continues to be iconic and rarely replicated to the same degree of effectiveness. As we reported, Brett DiBiase, son of the WWE Hall Of Famer, was arrested along with five other people in February 2020 as part of an embezzlement scheme in early 2020 from the state of Mississippi.
The DiBiase wrestling family is one of those being sued by Mississippi’s Department of Human Services for alleged financial mismanagement. Just recently, the Mississippi DHS issued a press release announcing that a civil complaint had been filed against the 38 people accused of being responsible for or recipients of the funds.
Ted DiBiase Sr., who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2010, as well as his sons Ted Jr. and Brett, are named in the suit. After being arrested in February of that year, Brett DiBiase pled guilty to charges linked to the scandal in December 2020. Brett was paid $48,000 by the DHS as a representative of the company “Restore2” and received payment using false and fraudulent representations.
In 2018 and 2019, the Mississippi Community Education Center paid Ted DiBiase Jr. to provide training to human services staff. According to the lawsuit, the former WWE World Tag Champion made “no substantial attempt” to deliver any training as part of his contractual obligations.
Ted DiBiase Sr. is accused of defrauding the state of nearly $2.1 million in welfare payments through his religious non-profit Heart of David Ministries. DiBiase Jr. allegedly persuaded then-Mississippi DHS Director John Davis to funnel $1.7 million to Heart of David Ministries, according to the lawsuit.
Ted DiBiase Sr. owes the state of Mississippi $1,971,223 in damages, while Heart of David Ministries owes the state $1,721,223 in damages. Ted DiBiase Jr. is being sued for $2,897,487, “Restore2” is being sued for $48,000, and Brett DiBiase is being sued for $824,258.
