AEW fans have been clamoring for a trios title since the company first started in 2019. With groups like The Elite, The Dark Order, Blackpool Combat Club, Best Friends, The House of Black, and more, there is no shortage of talent to wrestle in six-man tag matches. Those much-anticipated titles could be coming very soon.

Tony Khan recently hinted that trios titles were coming to AEW at some point. Several factions and trios groups have already formed. AEW regularly features these contests on TV.

According to Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW has already commissioned belts for the trios championship. Now it is just a matter of time before the titles are unveiled. AEW could be waiting on one of its top stars to kick off a tournament to crown the first champs.

“Trios title belts have been made so now it’s just a matter of when they pull the trigger. Tony Khan was asked about making trios titles and gave the indication a few months ago what it was happening, but that they didn’t want to do the tournament until Kenny Omega was back. There are so many obvious teams with Young Bucks & Omega, Cole & Fish & O’Reilly, Danielson & Moxley & Yuta, Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus & Christian Cage, FTR & ?, Best Friends & Orange Cassidy, Death Triangle, House of Black which is eight right there and you could do Starks & Hobbs & Hook, Jericho Appreciation Society, Kingston & Santana & Ortiz, Hardys & ?, Lee & Strickland & ?, Dark Order, Ethan Page & Sky & ?. You could probably pad this to 16 fairly easily or do 12 with some first round byes”

Trios titles in AEW have been a long time coming. Very seldom does Tony Khan post a tweet that doesn’t have at least one fan begging for him to start a trios division. That will soon be a reality.

With the enormous amount of three-person groups in AEW, it was only natural that these titles would be the next evolution of the company. It will be interesting to see how the process to crown the first champions turns out. We will know sooner than a lot of people thought.
