Malcolm Bivens found himself among WWE’s litany of NXT superstars who received their walking papers yesterday. Unlike some of the other releases, Bivens may have had a plan to leave anyway. It was reported that Malcolm refused to sign a new contract with WWE after being offered the deal in February.
Bivens, who made his name in Ring of Honor and on the independents as Stokely Hathaway, clearly didn’t plan on returning. The talented manager didn’t like what WWE presented him with. Therefore he turned it down.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the most recent round of NXT releases. While speaking about Bivens’ ouster, it was noted that turning down the contract was the reason. If he was on his way out anyway, why keep him around?
“Yeah, he turned down a new contract offer so they just decided to get rid of him. I think the feeling was that he was thinking of leaving and if that’s the case, that’s the case.”
Bivens received a ton of support from fans upon learning of his release. The Diamond Mine stable was still being booked in active storylines. Despite that, he will now move on and look for a spot elsewhere.
Malcolm Bivens may be gone, but Stokely Hathaway will live on. He has proven in the past that he has the chops to make it outside of WWE. It’s only a matter of time before his phone starts ringing.
