WWE released 10 NXT talents the other day. One of the talents that got fired was Dakota Kai. Her exit came as a shock and many WWE superstars took to social media to show appreciation to the two-time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion.
According to Fightful Select, Dakota Kai worked several dark matches on the main roster prior to her release, but the company had no solid plans for her on either RAW or SmackDown.
In addition to Bivens’ deal being up in 2023, Daktoa Kai’s contract was set to expire in April of 2023, Fightful has learned. Kai got several looks on the main roster in dark matches, but those we spoke to at the time of the WWE draft said there was “no solid direction, plan, or firm ideas” for her on the main roster and had no idea if she’d even be called up. As we reported, Dakota Kai had also made it clear she didn’t plan on re-signing with WWE.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio previously stated that the call to nix Dakota Kai’s main roster debut plans came directly from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Dakota knew her time in WWE was about to end and was not planning on renewing her contract with the company. We’ll have to wait and see what path she pursues in the wake of her WWE exit.
