“Hangman” Adam Page missed last night’s AEW Dynamite due to COVID. The AEW World Champion has been building to a massive title match at the Double or Nothing PPV with CM Punk. Punk cut a promo and worked on commentary to set up the official announcement of the match in Page’s absence, but there was much more planned.

AEW originally wanted to run a huge angle to set up the title fight. With no Adam Page, they simply had Punk do some talking and then showed the graphic announcing the Double or Nothing match. Once Hangman is feeling well again, they are likely to revisit that planned segment.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about how COVID is still affecting pro wrestling around the world. Several WWE stars have missed time recently. Japan has also had some issues. In Adam Page’s case, it forced a lot of things to be switched around.

“Obviously, there was going to be a big angle with Punk and Adam Page that would lead to the announcement of the match and instead they just announced the match as the main event for Double or Nothing. So, whatever that was will probably take place next week if he is able to be there next week, which, as I said, he believes that he will be there next week.”

Hopefully, Adam Page is feeling better and ready to make his return next week. Fans are already excited about the match with CM Punk. A proper build could make this the biggest main event AEW has had in a long time.

We may be out of the pandemic stage of COVID, but the virus is still causing issues in wrestling. Dynamite and Rampage needed to have big changes made due to Page’s absence. Fortunately, Punk was able to carry the feud by himself this week.
