Rick Steiner’s son Bron Breakker has been on a roll since debuting in NXT 2.0 back in September last year. His popularity increased every passing week and it is unlikely to stop anytime soon. Bischoff also explained why WWE changed Rex Steiner’s name as well.
Earlier this month, fans had to see more name changes for talents. This included Austin Theory’s name being changed to just Theory. Even Raquel Gonzalez’s name was changed to Rodriguez.
Even before that, WWE had changed Rex Steiner’s name to Bron Breakker. Many found the name very weird as well. While speaking on Strictly Business, Eric Bischoff talked about Bron Breakker’s name change. He explained why the change happened, as it helps Breakker build his own brand.
“When I heard of Bron Breakker, I actually got hot. I was like, whoa, why would they do that? Now I know why they did it but I was still reacting emotionally as the fan in me and part of that is because of my relationship with Rick and Scott. I love that connection, the legacy, the second-generation stuff. Then the next day, when my fanboy s**t faded away, I went, well of course they have to do that. If they’re going to push Bron Breakker, if he’s going to become a year from now, or five years from now, or 10 years from now, the next Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock, they’ve got to own that brand, that trademark, and you’re not going to do it with Rechsteiner or Rex Steiner.”
Bron Breakker is currently the NXT Champion and it is likely he will be making his way to the main roster soon enough. We’ll have to see when that will be.
