Despite AEW holding a tournament in his brother Owen’s honor, Bret Hart has revealed the promotion hasn’t asked him to appear in any form for it.
Fans had expected the Hitman to appear in AEW in some capacity in the near future, but Dave Meltzer broke the news during a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that there had been no enquiry into the 64-year-old showing up.
“I was just like ‘can you do it?’ because it would be so cool for him to be in Vegas for the finals of the Owen Hart Tournament. I think it would just be a nice symbolic thing, and he was just like ‘they haven’t asked me,’ that’s what he said. I think that would be something cool. The key is Martha and everything.”
Meltzer also reported that many in AEW believed Hart had signed an exclusive deal with WWE that may restrict him from making any appearances for the promotion in the future.
The Hitman last appeared in AEW during the promotion’s inaugural pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, to unveil the AEW World Championship. With Hart set to manage FTR at a Big Time Wrestling event in June, it seems that is the closest fans will get to seeing him in AEW anytime soon.
