Eddie Kingston took his frustrations with Chris Jericho out on Daniel Garcia on the latest episode of AEW Rampage. Kingston made an example out of the young member of the Jericho Appreciation Society but stopped short of a full-on beating. The Mad King said he was saving that for Jericho himself.
While Kingston cut short his domination over Garcia, AEW cut the match short for viewers at home. The bout went much longer for the fans in Pittsburgh. About half of the action was edited out by the time it hit the air.
Dave Meltzer mentioned the editing in his latest Wrestling Observer Daily Update. With Rampage only getting an hour of airtime, AEW has tried to pack as much in as possible. This has come at the expense of the Garcia – Kingston matchup.
“Reports from those live were that the Eddie Kingston vs Daniel Garcia match on Friday’s Rampage show was heavily edited. You could see the show was basically forcing as much in the hour because segments didn’t have time to breathe to give you as much match time as possible. Kingston vs. Garcia was 22:00 live but about nine minutes less on television.”
Fans who attended the show noted that things went later than usual. The entire episode was pared down to fit into the hour time slot. AEW fans will recall that SCU’s final match as a team was also cut right in the middle of an emotional moment, so it’s not the first obvious case of editing on the show.
Unless AEW gets more time for Rampage, this will continue to be an issue. One hour is a not a lot of time, especially for emotional segments that need time to breath. We will see if Tony Khan makes adjustments so that this doesn’t happen again in the future.
