WWE and AEW’s Wednesday Night War started in October 2019 as AEW Dynamite and NXT went head-to-head every week. AEW Dynamite would win in the ratings war for the majority of the time. The Wars finally came to an end in April last year after NXT moved to Tuesday nights.

When AEW started back in 2019, Samoa Joe was part of Monday Night RAW regularly. He clearly saw how AEW was slowly growing as a company and was aware of what the WWE locker room thought of AEW.

While speaking to the New York Post. Samoa Joe revealed what the WWE locker room initially thought of AEW when it just started. Joe stated that no superstar thought of it as bad for the wrestling business.

“It’s a good thing.” (on what the WWE locker room thought of AEW). The more competition there is, the more it drives the other guy to do better, to be better. It’s healthy for the industry. It’s healthy for everybody. Nobody was like, ‘oh no, not another place to work.’ Anyone who was like that, it’s just asinine and stupid. I don’t know why anyone would think that.”

Triple H was blamed for NXT losing the Wednesday Night Wars. Regardless, Samoa Joe is in AEW and is busy working there now.
