Ever since Wardlow made his AEW debut back in 2019, he was booked as an indomitable force in the company. Introduced as MJF’s bodyguard, Wardlow slowly gained a fan following thanks to his natural charisma. MJF and Wardlow’s storyline was given huge props recently.
The Ward-dog betrayed MJF back at AEW Revolution and cost him the Dog Collar match against CM Punk. The two have been engaged in a very bitter feud since then as well.
On last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF ‘Captain’ Shawn Dean competed in a match. Wardlow suddenly appeared at ringside and this distraction led to MJF losing via count out.
While speaking on The Jim Cornette Experience, Jim Cornette said that fans were eager yo see Wardlow get his hands on MJF. He gave huge props to the storyline for being a true wrestling angle.
“When you get reactions like this and you look like that and you are coming in and laying waste to people and the babies are going in the air, that’s f**king over. They [fans] want to see this. They want to see Wardlow get his hands on MJF. They want to see this kind of s**t that where he throws people away because he’s a giant f**king behemoth.
This was a wrestling angle. Fans just wanna see these two get a hold of each other or specifically Wardlow get a hold of MJF more now than you did last week. That’s a wrestling angle.”
Wardlow will be squaring off against The Butcher on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. We’ll have to wait and see how their storyline will develop in the coming weeks.
