Drew Gulak got a look as a backstage interviewer on this week’s WWE SmackDown. Gulak had a moment with Charlotte Flair that many fans thought was insulting to Drew. Charlotte used Gulak to send a message to Ronda Rousey in the middle of the ring, despite applying one of her signature holds very awkwardly.

One prominent wrestling journalist believes it could be a bad sign for Drew Gulak. On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the spot with Bryan Alvarez. Alvarez, a trained and experienced wrestler himself, noted how bad the scene made Drew Gulak look.

“So, he turns to leave and she ends up chop blocking him from behind and she goes to put him in the figure eight, and she loses his leg, so poor Drew Gulak has to hold his legs in the right position because she doesn’t actually have the hold on right. So she puts him in the figure eight and even though there’s no pressure on his legs whatsoever because it’s not locked on right, he’s got to chant, ‘I quit! I quit!’ and she goes ‘Say it louder!’ and he’s screaming, ‘I quit!'”

Dave Meltzer responded by noting Drew Gulak’s professionalism during the poorly-applied hold. Dave also went on to speculate that this type of segment is generally a bad omen for WWE superstars. Meltzer said Drew should change his phone number because this is the type of angle WWE shoots before they cut people.

Perhaps due to Friday, April 15, being a holiday, WWE’s annual round of roster cuts never came. Drew Gulak could be included among those if it comes. It remains to be seen if that will be the case.
