AEW fans have been a little nervous that the recent merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery would bring about major changes. Long-time fans remember the way AOL-Time Warner treated WCW after they purchased Turner Broadcasting. At least one AEW star is not worried at all.
There are big changes expected at the top, but thus far WarnerMedia has been more than happy with AEW’s performance on TNT and TBS. New leadership always brings about new ideas, and many have wondered if the new corporate structure might have different opinions on the value wrestling brings than the previous group. Matt Hardy says it is business as usual.
On the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt spoke with Christian Cage about his thoughts on the merger. Hardy does not see any cause for concern in the immediate future. The show’s performance speaks for itself.
“They are extremely happy with AEW right now. I don’t know of anyone that has been concerned about it. I haven’t seen any kind of worry or concern. I mean, it’s just business as usual.
For the foreseeable future, I continue to see it as business as usual, especially because the Dynamite show is doing great. It’s in the top five every single week. It’s a live program, which people love and they’re really behind it. You have to always remember too that it’s only three years old, which is quite a statement that it’s already in the top three to five every single week.”
The relationship between AEW and WarnerMedia has been strong so far. With major negotiations coming up, Tony Khan will be keeping an eye on what’s going on with his broadcast partners. For now, everything will remain status quo.
