WWE was surrounded by controversy in late 2020 and early 2021. This is because they imposed a ban on WWE Superstars earning money from third-party platforms such as Twitch and Cameo. Adam Cole explained how he still stayed on Twitch despite the ban.
WWE Superstars had to hand over the ownership of their accounts to the company. They would receive a portion of the income generated from the platforms, which would be deducted from their downside guarantee.
Adam Cole is a huge video game lover and streams regularly on Twitch, even during his time in WWE. While speaking to Fightful, Adam Cole explained how he managed to stay on Twitch in spite of the ban.
“So yes and no is the best way I could put it, like it was in some ways mentioned to me about you know, Twitch maybe being a problem and then I kind of gave them my two cents, in the sense of you know, ‘I’m not using Adam Cole, I’m wearing video game T-shirts, I don’t curse on my streams,’ I was very, very careful thinking, if there is a seven-year-old WWE fan watching me play this game, I don’t want them to go, ‘oh my God, Adam Cole said what?’ you know. I was very, very careful that and I still institute that to this day, even with AEW. But what I kind of, in a lot of ways again, made it clear to this person, that Twitch was something that I really did not want to give up and was not willing to give up and fortunately for me, they kind of just let that slide, kind of just said, ‘OK , all right, we’re just gonna let it go,’ and then I manage to continue to stream on Twitch.”
WWE eventually lifted the ban earlier this year as well. Adam Cole is set to challenge Adam Page for the AEW World Championship in a Texas Death Match on this week’s live episode of AEW Rampage. We’ll have to see if Cole will be able to win the match or not.
