WWE has been changing a lot of superstar ring names recently. First, Walter became Gunther. Then, Pete Dunne was transformed into Butch. Most recently, Austin Theory, Raquel Gonzalez, and Marcel Barthel all got new monikers.

That means the WWE legal team has been busy. Trademarks have been filed for two of the new character names. According to the US Patent & Trademark Office, the company locked down the names Ludwig Kaiser (Barthel) and Raquel Rodriguez (Raquel Gonzalez) with trademark protections.

The filings are standard for WWE when they trademark a new name. Both filings are identical. Each was applied for on April 9, 2022.

“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs, in the field of sports entertainment”

Both Rodriguez and Kaiser have already debuted. Ludwig Kaiser will be teaming with Gunther. Raquel joined the main roster as a singles wrestler.

Time will tell if WWE continues to change names for superstars. It seems like almost a guarantee at this point for NXT call-ups. Given Austin Theory’s name change, it seems like it could happen to anyone.
