RVD remains one of the most technically-gifted pro wrestlers to have ever competed inside the squared circle. The pro wrestling legend has competed in several promotions such as ECW, WCW, WWE, and IMPACT Wrestling during his career that has lasted over thirty years.
During the earlier years of his career, John Cena was involved in a huge match with Rob Van Damn at ECW One Night Stand 2006. It saw RVD beat Cena for the WWE Title.
After his triumphant victory, RVD was arrested for marijuana possession, which forced him to vacate the title. While speaking with Simon Miller from WhatCulture, RVD reflected on his arrest and how things would’ve been different in the modern age.
“When I did have the world championship, I dropped the ball by getting busted, whether it would be a crime now or not. And by the way, it was just, I had a bag with me it was possession. But that is really all that it was, which isn’t, you know, even illegal a lot of times but, I feel like, hey, that’s great that we’ve made progress and I’m glad to be part of that.
And so yeah, I believe that is just part of being ahead of my time and part of being feeling valid, like I have a place in this life to move people forward in ways that I that I see on necessary or fit.”
Rob Van Dam was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last year and also gave Vince McMahon a bunch of rolling papers as a gift, which Vince McMahon found very funny. RVD is happy where he is in life right now and that is all that matters.
