Brody King joined AEW shortly after news broke that Ring of Honor would be going on hiatus. King was immediately placed into the House of Black stable with Malakai Black. The dark group has since filled out with the addition of Buddy Matthews.
King said that there were wrestlers within AEW who worked hard to influence him to join the company. Among them were MJF and Darby Allin. King recently talked about their efforts during an appearance on AEW Unrestricted.
Brody said he had been receiving calls from the AEW stars even while under contract with ROH. The hiatus made the decision a lot easier. Tony Khan and Brody King were in contact on the day after the news broke.
“It was just kind of weird. Like you said, a lot of people that were probably excited for me to be there were also maybe campaigning for me to come there. Guys like MJF and Darby, there’s a whole list of people that I used to work with on the indies, we all kind of came up together.
So, they would check in every couple of months and be like, ‘Hey, when is your contract up? When are you coming here?’ Then obviously with the fallout of Ring Of Honor, the gears started turning a little bit more. I got in contact with Tony, I think maybe the day after the news of Ring Of Honor broke. It happened quite rapidly.”
Brody King was a perfect fit for the stable. King thinks Buddy Matthews still needs to work on the aesthetic a little bit. For now, King is happy to be a part of one of the most dominant forces in All Elite Wrestling.
