Bron Breakker won the NXT Championship in a surprise rematch with Dolph Ziggler on last night’s WWE Raw. Ziggler defeated Breakker to defend the title at Saturday’s NXT: Stand & Deliver event. The baffling defeat came the morning after Breakker’s father, Rick Steiner, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Bron will return to Orlando as the reigning champion. WWE made a late decision to put the title on Breakker. Now he will celebrate his second championship on tonight’s broadcast.
Mike Johnson of PW Insider reports that Rick Steiner will be at tonight’s NXT 2.0 event. There is no word on whether Rick will be featured on the show or if he is just backstage visiting. There may be a celebration segment that could include the newest WWE Hall of Famer.
“[Newly] minted WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner, the father of WWE NXT Champion Bron Breakker, will be at tonight’s WWE NXT 2.0 taping in Orlando, Florida, PWInsider.com has confirmed.”
Rick Steiner was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with his brother, Scott Steiner. The pair was one of the greatest tag teams of the 1980s and 90s, winning multiple championships in WCW and WWE. WWE has acknowledged Bron Breakker’s heritage on television before but generally has minimized it.
Bron Breakker is poised to be a major breakout star for WWE in the coming months and years. Any association with a Hall of Famer seems to be something the company would want to promote. Fans will have to tune in to USA tonight at 8 PM to see if Rick Steiner shows up on NXT 2.0.
