Rick Boogs reportedly injured his patellar tendon during his WrestleMania 38 match. The guitar-playing sidekick of Shinsuke Nakamura will be forced to miss some in-ring action because he will need surgery to recover fully. WWE fans have been wondering how long Rick might be sidelined.
Elias returned on last night’s Raw as his younger brother, ‘Ezekiel.’ It was notable that Elias no longer has a beard or a guitar. Nobody knows exactly where the new gimmick will go, but WWE has successfully pared down the guitar gimmicks to just Boogs.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed that WWE already has a guitar-playing wrestler in Rick Boogs. Alvarez noted that Boogs could still play guitar despite his leg injury. Dave then gave information on when Boogs will be back.
“I don’t expect him around for a couple months.”
Rick Boogs getting hurt at WrestleMania brought his match to an end early. Unfortunately, it sounds like it is bad enough that he will miss a couple of months. Bryan Alvarez joked that Boogs could play the guitar from a chair for Nakamura’s entrance.
Whether Boogs works through the injury as a guitar player and valet only or not will be a decision that WWE and their doctors have to make. Fans who were hoping to see a quick return to the squared circle for Boogs will have to be patient. It could be a longer road to recovery than many initially guessed.
