Roman Reigns, the Universal Champion, was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this year. Not only did this throw the Day 1 main event off the tracks, but it also added some extra twists on the road to WrestleMania. WWE had to change up a lot of things, including the WWE Title match as Brock Lesnar was inserted into the main event.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the second Day 1 PPV event is again scheduled for 1/1 in Atlanta. That will be a Sunday event as opposed to this year’s Saturday premium live event.

This year’s WWE Day 1 saw 11,213 tickets out and 10,300 paid because of the Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns hype. Unfortunately, Reigns was struck down with COVID and the match did not end up happening. Hopefully, next year’s event won’t need any changing.

The second Day 1 PPV show is scheduled for 1/1 again in Atlanta with the idea that’s the city to hold it in because so many tourists go to the city that day. I’m not sure if that ended up working out or not. The show did 11,213 tickets out and 10,300 paid this year, but that was with Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns, the company’s biggest match possible on top. That ended up not happening since Reigns tested positive for COVID the day before or day of the show. But before the match was announced, three weeks before show time, they only had 5,300 tickets sold

The company only ended up selling 5.300 tickets before that match was announced. The Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar announcement resulted in the spike in tickets sales. Lesnar was then added to the WWE Title match.

That match was initially scheduled to include champion Big E and contenders Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley. Ringside News exclusively reported that WWE’s plans for WrestleMania did not change with Brock Lesnar winning the gold. If anything, we were told the company said it will enhance the ongoing storyline. Obviously, we were correct yet again.
