AEW is all in when it comes to bringing in released WWE talent. This is a
good time for the company as the wrestling free-agent market of women is fierce
right now, and naturally, Tony Khan wants to take advantage of the opportunity.
Athena, formerly Ember Moon, is currently free agenting. She was released by WWE in November last year along with various other superstars. She was a part of the main roster before returning to NXT in 2020.
According to Fightful, there have been gleam talks and “gauging interest”
between Athena and AEW. Sources with direct knowledge of the situation told the outlet that there was a “feeling out” out process between Ember Moon and Tony Khan’s promotion going as far back as when she was released. However, people at AEW claimed locking her down isn’t a priority right now.
As previously reported, AEW has a lot of interest in Toni Storm right now. That is a big possibility right now as Tony Khan promised a new debut tonight on AEW Dynamite.
Tegan Fox was also released by WWE, in November last year, ending her four-year run. She hasn’t wrestled since then. She is another top free agent in the market and is going by the name Nixon Newell. She was part of NXT before debuting on SmackDown.
When wrestling as a free agent, wrestlers often find themselves having difficulty with Visa situations. Nixon has been kept busy with solving just that; the outlet was told when they inquired about her status.
We will have to see who debuts for AEW next, but they certainly seem to have some options right now.
