Jonathan Gresham is the reigning Ring of Honor World Champion. The problem is, Ring of Honor’s status is currently in limbo. The company went dark for several months before Tony Khan recently announced that he purchased the promotion from Sinclair Broadcasting.
Gresham has been dutifully defending the title wherever he can find an opponent. The champ said regardless of what happened to ROH, he wanted to carry on the championship’s legacy. Jonathan has done a great job thus far.
A new report by Fightful Select indicates that Jonathan Gresham will now be working for the Tony Khan family of wrestling companies. It was noted that there have been things produced for Gresham, although it is not known if they will be used in AEW or a reborn ROH.
“There have been assets produced indicating that Jonathan Gresham will be working under the Tony Khan umbrella. That being said, we aren’t sure if that’s for All Elite Wrestling, Ring of Honor, or a combination of the two. Considering he holds the original ROH World Title belt, it would be safe to assume that he’s working some dates for them. Gresham was backstage at AEW Dynamite on February 23 all the way up in Bridgeport, CT, when he ran his Terminus 2 show in Atlanta the next day.”
Jonathan Gresham defeated Jay Lethal for the ROH title at the Final Battle pay-per-view. Bandido was the reigning champion at the time but had to miss the event due to a positive COVID test. Fans have been wondering if the belts would ever be unified.
At one point, there was a tentative plan to have that match at the Supercard of Honor event happening over WrestleMania weekend. That event is up in the air at the moment. The issue of having two champions will have to be solved eventually.
