WWE has not met much ratings success with the rebranding of NXT. The new, colorful show has struggled to bring in the demographic of viewers the company is looking for thus far. As a developmental brand, that shouldn’t matter too much, but WWE does have a television partner to please.
NXT has been featuring superstars from the Raw brand recently. AJ Styles had a program with Grayson Waller. Dolph Ziggler is the current NXT Champion. Co-branding is something fans should get used to.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that there will be a Miz TV segment with Dolph Ziggler on this week’s NXT. Dave Meltzer responded with a statement about how WWE is using the crossover as a strategy going forward. They want a Raw star on NXT almost every week.
“Yep, we’ll see how that does. I mean, that’s the big thing. The strategy to build the developmental brand is to have a star from Raw on the show almost every week and to plug that on Monday to build to Tuesday. They didn’t shoot any angle on the show, but they did plug, you know, Miz being there with Dolph Ziggler.
No Bron Breakker. Bron Breakker and Ciampa, they were supposed to be on the weekend shows. Breakker was on the weekend shows. Ciampa worked today’s [Monday] show, but he was on Main Event, he was not on Raw, so they’ve been around.”
Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker didn’t show up on Raw, but they have been appearing on main roster shows. The biggest part of the crossover seems to be getting Raw talent on NXT. That will continue with the big Miz TV segment on tonight’s episode.
