Elias was one of the mainstays of NXT until he was called up to the main roster. Unfortunately, his run on the main roster was far from ideal. “The Drifter” Elias Samson was no more and what fans got instead left a lot to be desired.
A report came out last year where it was stated that Elias’ new gimmick was shot down because he looked too much like “Macho Man” Randy Savage. As we exclusively reported, Elias was spotted backstage in WWE with no beard and cropped hair. Ringside News further reported that Elias’ name doesn’t come up in creative conversations anymore.
In fact, the scrapped version of Elias made its way onto the upcoming WWE 2K22 video game. While speaking on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, Jaxson Ryker, who used to work with Elias, talked about his absence from WWE television. Ryker couldn’t understand why Elias has been absent in the first place.
“The people love Elias. They either loved him or hated him. Even when he was singing his songs, even when he was a heel, they were still cheering him sometimes. Elias was simply one of those characters that they can latch onto. I don’t know what WWE has planed for him but, man, we will have to see what happens.”
WWE currently has no plans for Elias whatsoever, so it is not known when exactly The Drifter will make his return to WWE television. From the looks of it, it is likely to be sooner rather than later.
