Ring Of Honor shocked the pro wrestling world to its core when it announced that it was going to undergo a reimagining. This led to the company releasing all of its talents at the same time. It seems WWE had plans of shutting down ROH had they purchased it a few years ago.
AEW President Tony Khan revealed on this past week’s episode of AEW Dynamite that he has purchased the entirety of Ring Of Honor. This was certainly an unexpected move, with fans and pro wrestlers alike still talking about it even now.
As reported earlier, Triple H wanted to purchase Ring Of Honor back in 2018. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE would simply shut down Ring Of Honor after purchasing it.
The company would just be purchasing the tape library, which had early matches of a number of top WWE talents. Plans included using ROH’s content library on the WWE Network and for WWE projects, including documentaries. ROH would have been shut down to prevent completion with WWE NXT.
ROH’s Supercard Of Honor and TV tapings will still be happening after Tony Khan’s acquisition. We will have to wait and see whether ROH will truly thrive with Khan as its new owner or not.
