Ringside News exclusively reported that Cody Rhodes was on WrestleMania documents, then he was pulled from the show not three hours later. We were able to confirm that he was taken off any internal documents and it appears he is no longer on the show. This is quite a confusing situation, but fans aren’t the only ones in the lurch.
Cody Rhodes made a lot of waves recently when he announced that he was leaving All Elite Wrestling. Cody was one of the company’s founders and played a significant backstage and in-ring role since AEW’s inception. News broke that WWE already had creative plans for The American Nightmare, leading most to assume that he was on his way there.
As is always the case with professional wrestling, plans are never completely set in stone. Reports came out that Cody Rhodes’ talks with WWE were breaking down. Ringside News reported that he was still listed on the company’s internal creative plans.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer did confirm that Cody Rhodes was included in WWE’s plans. Creative was laid out for Cody to make his return to the company. Now, even those within WWE don’t know what exactly is going on.
“As far as Cody Rhodes, since we already brought him up earlier, his status has changed in theory. He was on the books in WWE. They had creative laid out for him. They still thought on Friday that they had creative laid out for him and then now, it’s very uncertain.
They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s up in the air. They don’t know. They thought they had him and now, it’s not like it’s dead, it’s not like they think they don’t have him, but they’re not sure.
Everyone in the world thinks that Cody runs Ring of Honor or something. I suppose there’s ways to do that angle and everything like that, but I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see how this all plays out.”
The deal between WWE and Cody Rhodes isn’t signed and sealed, but it is also not dead. The feeling inside WWE is one of uncertainty. Time will tell if Cody ultimately does re-join Vince McMahon and company during what has been an unpredictable WrestleMania season.
