Cody Rhodes let his AEW contract expire and worked on a handshake agreement until he had one more great match against Sammy Guevara. Now the American Nightmare is moving on once again. The big question is whether he will return to Vince McMahon’s company after spending a few years with Tony Khan.
A report came out last night saying that Cody Rhodes and WWE’s negotiations “fizzled out.” It was said that a deal has not been reached. If that is the case then WrestleMania will need some changing.
Ringside News asked around about the story regarding Cody Rhodes not inking a deal with WWE. A tenured member of the creative team told us, “I know what’s scheduled for Cody for Mania, and that it’s still on the list. If it’s changed, no one has told us yet or corrected the internal documents.”
Just prior to putting this story out, we were able to confirm this once again. We were told that, “Cody, as of an hour ago, still on internal documents for WrestleMania.” We were also told that no other information is available. We have extensively covered in the past how the flow of information backstage in WWE is segmented, disjointed, and purposefully vague.
The fact that Cody Rhodes’ name is on the internal documents for WrestleMania certainly seems like a sign that WWE has plans for the Grandson of a Plumber. Let’s see what happens next, but hope is not lost for Cody Rhodes’ WWE return.
