Cesaro let his WWE contract lapse and quietly parted ways with the company last month. His exit shocked many within and outside the Stamford-based promotion. Mick Foley said Cesaro’s departure is pro wrestling industry’s gain because he is such a great talent and would thrive anywhere he goes.
Cesaro finds himself in a unique predicament. He isn’t bound by WWE’s no-compete clause since he did not extend his contract after it expired. Moreover, AEW is open to bringing in the Swiss Superman. This was stated by Tony Khan himself during today’s media call.
The AEW head honcho called Cesaro a fantastic athlete and said he had great admiration for such an extraordinary talent. Khan said he’s open to the idea of signing the former WWE United States Champion. Whether Cesaro has received an offer from Khan remains to be seen.
The real-life Claudio Castagnoli has yet to release a public statement regarding his exit from the multi-billion dollar conglomerate, and is continuing to receive praise from peers and fans alike following his shocking departure. We’ll have to wait and see when and where he shows up next.
