Johnny Gargano had a solid career in the WWE. The 34-year-old was one of the mainstays of Triple H’s version of NXT and headlined multiple Takeover PPVs. His impressive performance on the grandest stage of the black and gold brand earned him the nickname “Mr. Takeover.”
Gargano parted ways with the WWE in December 2021. He had a no non-compete clause attached to his contract. The provision allowed him the freedom to appear the promotion of his choosing without any opposition. The former NXT champion is now exercising free agency.
Gargano took to Twitter Monday, February 28th to reveal the reason behind him not resigning with WWE. He said he wanted to spend more time with wife Candice Lerae and their newborn son Quill and have the freedom to selectively pick and choose the things for his career.
He also provided his email address for potential bookings, appearances and business inquiries. A second tweet contained the photo of his pet dog. Gargano joked his publicist/manager was ready to promptly respond to emails from interested parties.
His next in-ring appearance remains to be seen. It was previously reported that Gargano has not entered into formal negotiations with Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Fans were expecting his debut at the promotion’s Beach Break event, but that didn’t happen.
