Vince McMahon is the Chairman of WWE and oversees everything that goes on in the company, right down to the most minute of details. McMahon is larger than life and is known to do the craziest of things, many of which are true. That includes his legendary midnight workouts. It seems that Mr. McMahon punished a WWE star in brutal fashion.
Back in 2003, Zach Gowen was one of the mainstays of WWE television, especially thanks to his feud with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon. The one-legged star was often decimated in his matches and ultimately had a short run in the company.
While speaking on Cafe de Rene, former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree talked about the time Brock Lesnar hit Zach Gowen with a brutal chair shot and made him bleed in front of Gowen’s mother. Dupree stated that it was Vince McMahon’s way of punishing the young star for smoking cigarettes backstage.
”You believe nothing what you hear, but what I had heard is that he was caught smoking cigarettes backstage, right? If you’ve ever been backstage at WWF show, Vince has ‘no smoking’ signs all over the building. The only two people that were allowed to smoke were Blackjack Lanza and Pat Patterson. Anybody else, (no). So anyway, remember that segment where Brock bashed his (Gowen’s) f****** brains in with that steel chair in front of his own mother? That was punishment right there.”
Vince McMahon rules WWE with an iron first and usually, anyone who doesn’t do what he says or disobeys rules set by him tend to get punished. Zach Gowen was likely one of the numerous wrestlers who were punished from the looks of it.
