There is no doubt that Rhea Ripley is one of the top female Superstars in the company. She made a name for herself in NXT before being called up to the main roster, being a former NXT Women’s Champion. She was the RAW Women’s Champion last year and is still one of the mainstays of the main roster.
Ripley has been working in WWE since 2017 and it did not take her long to become a top star in the company. Ripley also ended up defeating Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship back in 2019, in a moment that truly made fans happy.
While speaking on the podcast My Love Letter to Wrestling, Rhea Ripley recalled her first huge match in NXT, where she challenged Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. Ripley revealed that she was initially supposed to lose the match but WWE changed the plan at the last minute as she was very over with the fans.
“I wasn’t supposed to have that rise, I was supposed to go out and have that match with Shayna the first one, where you know, where I come out, and I do the promo and it leads to the match. I was supposed to go into that match and lose.
When I went out for the promo, just the start of my song like it was one of the loudest crowd reactions that I have ever heard and I guess that the people in gorilla have heard too because legit I finished the promo and like it was the time where we would pre-record, so like we’d do four weeks of tapings in one day so I did the promo and then I had to run and go get changed into my wrestling year to wrestle that night and they sort of they came in and they were like, yeah, we got to change everything because Rhea is too over.”
Ripley had a tremendous showing in the Women’s Elimination Chamber match but was ultimately defeated by Bianca Belair. It remains to be seen what is next in store for Rhea Ripley.
